Infinite Worlds not only marks the return of Chase the River, but the reinvention of the band. With the introduction of synths, the track is a move away from the band’s traditionally guitar based sound.
Frontman Stuart Lunn and producer Leonardo Solis have combined forces to create a dark and broody introduction to Chase the River’s new material.
The foundation of Infinite Worlds is a layer of synths, driving the song through peaks and troughs of intensity. Lunn’s gravelly rasping vocals are the hook though, as if he’s channeling the tragic focus of a classic novel down the microphone.
It’s an angry three minutes of inner torment and a love lost. Yet, Infinite Worlds retains an almost twisted hope that in some parallel universe, everything’s alright.
Infinite Worlds is a brave departure from what’s expected of Chase the River, but it’s a move that, on the basis of this track, will more than pay off.
